I brought a kitten home about a week ago and she's been hiding ever since she stepped foot in my apartment. It seems she only comes out at night when I am sleeping, because when I wake up I have to refill her water and food bowl, and scoop/change her litter box.
I have not even had a glimpse of her. Not a tail, an ear, nothing. I'm pretty sure she's hiding under the couch. My apartment is a small 1 bedroom so there aren't many hiding options. When I'm gone at work her kitty toys are in different places, so she only comes out when I'm not here.
On an article I googled, it said this is what cats normally do when they come to a new home and it could last up to 2 weeks, possibly even a month. I've played cat noises on my phone in an attempt to lure her out and placed a can of fancy feast right next to the couch, and nothing. The article also stated to not force her from her hiding place or it could scare her more. But I just want to love her and get her groomed, at least place a collar on her neck. What can I do to make her more comfortable? Or do I just wait until she wants to come out?
