I can't be the only one who has noticed that there are disturbing differences in the feeding recommendations among various wet kitten foods. I have 2 kittens (4 months old). When you look up how many kcalories should they eat a day, I see recommendations for 270, 325, etc. A fairly wide range, but still at least 270.
However, check this out:
Purina One recommends feeding 1 can (3 oz) per 3.75 pounds. My kittens are 5.3 pounds, or 1.41 cans a day.
Purina Pro Plan recommends feeding 1 can (3 oz) per 1.5-2 pounds. This works out to be 2.65-3.53 cans a day.
Huge difference right?
Each can has basically the same amount of kcal in it!!!! Purina One is 105 kcal per can, and Purina Pro Plan is 109 kcal per can.
If you do the math, that works out to be 148 kcal a day for Purina One!!! Like how is this grossly under the recommendations for kitten kcal intake??? The Pro Plan food gives 289-385 kcal a day.
What am I missing? Why is there such a huge difference in the feeding guidelines? Purina One is grain free but I don't see how that makes a difference...
Any Vet or expert insight? I know, "aSk YoUr vEt" - well, it's 11pm on a Sunday, can't really do that now can I lol.
