I have an approximately 1 week old mallard duckling. Don't know the sex. It has been eating everything it needs and it seems very happy, however I have noticed that on its neck there is a small patch of what looks to be down loss. The down loss is especially prominent whenever it swims as it's feathers get wet and push down onto it's skin. The duckling also seems to be scratching it with it's beak. I am wondering if it is normal, maybe to make way for adult feathers, however it seems a little early for that. Can anybody let me know what the issue is (if there even is an issue at all), and/or give me some pointers to help? I'll edit this post in a little while with pictures of it. Thanks in advance
