So I adopted a stray kitten on Thursday and I found a flea on him on Saturday. The kitten was roaming all around my apartment the whole time for a total of about 2 nights and 3 days. I washed him with baby shampoo and found one flea and flea dirt that Saturday. It’s been a week and I haven’t seen another flea on him or any around the house but I still feel so paranoid and I’m not sure how to get over it and if the fleas are gone.
Here are the steps I’ve taken: 1. Went to the vet & she cleared him of no new fleas. Put him on kitten flea prevention meds and when he’s a little heavier, she said they’ll give him capstone just as a precaution. 2. That Saturday I laid down flea powder for carpets and sprayed the couch with flea killer. I washed my sheets as well. 3. Sunday I used Raid Flea and Tick (it says it also kills eggs/larvae so that’s why i used this one) and sprayed it in every crevice of the house and vacuumed the entire house 4. Monday I vacuumed the whole house again and used more raid on my bedroom and bathroom for extra precaution 5. Tuesday I vacuumed the whole house again and then I laid down borax on every inch of the floor (for reference I only have an area rug in the living room but the entire rest of the house is hardwood & it’s a little old so there are cracks all over the hardwood) 6. Wednesday - Left the borax on for 26+ hours and then vacuumed the house house again 7. Thursday, i still felt paranoid so i called an exterminator, they told me to vacuum before they came so I vacuumed the whole house again and they came Thursday morning and sprayed the whole place 8. Friday the exterminator told me not to vacuum immediately to let the product work so I haven’t since. They’re coming for a second treatment in two weeks.
It’s now Saturday and I’m still feeling a little crazy. I’m scared to use my couch and be in my living room and I’ve washed my sheets pretty much everyday.
I haven’t seen another flea since Saturday on the cat or around the house. I know that they have a life cycle and I think that’s why I’m driving myself mad.
Are there more steps I should be taking? When can I start vacuuming again? Should I even between treatments?
I’ve given my kitten the flea prevention but I’m scared that he still has fleas and I keep missing it? What is excessive grooming vs normal grooming?
I haven’t let my kitten roam around because I’m so paranoid but I want him to have the beat comfortable life. Please any advice would be helpful.
