My boyfriend and I just adopted/rescued a cat off of Kijiji, her other owners couldn't take care of her anymore so we took her. She is the sweetest cat I've ever met, very affectionate, loves being right beside you. For the first couple hours we kept her only in our room, and we've gradually expanded her territory into the main areas of the house, keeping all the doors closed. Originally I wanted to keep her only in the room overnight, but that did NOT happen. She meowed all night long. At first I thought she just wanted attention, so I tried to call her up onto the bed - she didn't want that.
Eventually it got to the point where my boyfriend suggested we open the bedroom door, and I agreed. She stopped meowing for a couple hours, but at 4am it resumed and I just woke up and went to take care of her. The second I was up and doing school work, she dipped out of the room. She's not even meowing anymore. I don't even know. I'm hopeful she's just adjusting to her new surroundings.
If this issue persists for over a week, I have two ideas on how to deal with it: spray bottle or having a "bed time" room for her, where all of her food, bed, water, litter box, toys, go into the spare room we have right beside ours and she spends the night there.
Are there any other strategies you guys recommend? Will I be stressing her out too much by putting her in an isolated room? We can't keep having nights like this right now, we're both in the midst of exams.
