Please tell me things with my cat will get better

I seriously hate to be this person posting on Reddit about how things are going with my newly adopted cat, but I feel incredibly frustrated right now.

I adopted my male 1 yr. old cat a little over a month ago and overall the experience has been decently positive. This is my first time owning a pet, and I was super excited to get my home ready for him. I obviously really care for him, but I feel at a loss of what to do with him at times when he exhibits certain behavioral issues. I know compared to other peoples' horror stories with their cats, I completely lucked out. I don't know much about his history but he must have been socialized as a kitten for sure because he'll definitely allow you to give him pets and scratches. However, that's as much affection as he'll allow at this point---he doesn't tolerate being held, he never snuggles into my lap or even sit next to me for that matter. He also basically ruined one of my chairs by scratching it despite trying everything the internet had to offer to get him to stop (redirecting to a gnormous cat tree I bought him with plenty of scratching posts, scratch deterrents, even a time out or two which didn't really seem to work). His latest thing is that he plays super rough with my hands and scratches and bites the shit out of them (he didn't used to do this). He also gets the zoomies a lot even though I try to get in at least 2 play sessions a day, and its during these periods that he'll scratch the most or bite into my blinds and puncture holes into them with his teeth.

I don't want to literally sit here and type up a paragraph of complaints about my cat. I want him to love his new home. I realize maybe it's a question of whether or not he really trusts me yet. And despite the cons, there's also plenty of my pros. One of my favorite things he does is that he sleeps in between my legs on my bed at night which I always found super sweet. I guess I'm really just hoping to hear from veteran cat owners...will things get better? Am I just being impatient? Will he mellow out as he gets older? Any words of advice or encouragement would be super appreciated.

Sincerely, a brand spankin' new cat mom.

TL;DR: I've had my 1 yr.old male cate for a month and while he can be a total sweetie at times, I can't help but feel frustrated with some of his behaviors. I wish he were more affectionate and am hoping things will get better but maybe I should just accept the fact that he'll never be the affectionate kitty I was hoping for. Words of advice appreciated.
