I’m a university student who recently got a new kitten, around mid January.
Right off the bat I spoiled my cat, with self cleaning litter boxes, water fountains, scratchers etc.
However, last week I accidentally killed it, and today they found the body and I was contacted by my provincial animal welfare service who wanted to meet up in person.
I live in the top floor of an apartment, and have a balcony in my room.
About a week ago when I was showering I left my kitten unattended, and it must’ve been scared of the loud music because it ran off onto the balcony.
(Disclaimer: my balcony is usually closed, but the door is faulty so it does not close properly and I have to put a chair in front of it to keep it from opening)
Fast forward to when I finish my shower, I come out and he is nowhere to be seen. My apartment is relatively small so I assumed he must either be hiding or sleeping somewhere.
But I started to realize that it was cold as hell, and to my dismay the balcony door was wide open.
The railings on my balcony has a slit right before the floor hits the metal railing, and it leads directly down to the balcony under mine.
I look over and I see my poor kittens dead body on the balcony 2 floors down, and when I went to check the apartment nobody was home (presumably because everyone was away for Christmas break).
I check over the next few days, nothing. I was pretty in shock still and decided against reporting it to the animal welfare place.
Today however, I get a call that my kitten has been found dead and that I have to meet with an animal welfare officer tomorrow to come inspect my apartment.
I’m really stressed right now because I don’t want to be charged with animal murder, and that on top of the death of my kitten is eating away at me right now and I can’t find the will to study.
Anyways, that’s just my stress rant, thanks for reading.
