Hey, so I'm about to start my sophomore year of university later this year, and ever since I was a freshman in community college I've been largely considering adopting a cat once I got settled into my apartment after my first year of university. Being away from home has gone great so far and I'd say I've done pretty good for myself during my time here all things considered, but, as I was kind of expecting, life outside of class has started getting pretty lonely for me and I feel like now would be a good time for me to start thinking more seriously about adopting a cat since I've wanted to for a long time now.
The way I worded that probably sounds like I'm being impulsive as all hell but rest assured that I have done a ton of research and a lot of extensive planning-ahead since first considering it a couple of years ago to ensure that no matter where life takes me the cat will always be happy, healthy, safe, and cared for, and will under no circumstances ever be rehomed or anything of the kind, so it's not like I would only be adopting the cat on a whim without thinking it over first.
With that said, while I know that every cat is different, I thought it'd be useful to ask for others' experiences to see which type of cat is right for me, given that, as the title says, I'm a first timer. I dunno if *all* of the stuff I'm about to list out when it comes what I'm looking for will be useful or if a cat with such qualities even exists but here's some basic info about me and my ideal traits in a cat just in case it'd help.
About me:
* I've grown up with dogs all my life and am definitely a dog person overall but still adore cats
* The degree I'm pursuing doesn't call for a ton of classes so my schedule isn't super busy and I'd really only be away from home for a handful of hours tops every day
* I'm not allergic to cats but my mom is mildly allergic (her nose starts running a little bit if she's around them for a long time)
My ~ perfecte catte ~ :
* An indoor cat
* Loves human interaction but not to the point where being left alone for a few hours when I'm in class would be difficult for it to cope with or damaging to its health or psyche in any way
* Sweet
* Playful
* Outgoing
* Friendly towards strangers
* Good with other animals
* Vocal
* Smart
* Loves cuddles, snuggles, being held, etc.
Now I know all of the stuff I've said so far probably sounds naiive and maybe even ridiculous to novice cat owners, but again, keep in mind that despite all the time I've done researching, I still have never owned a cat before and am basically going into the whole concept of cat adoption half-blind, so with that in mind, say whatever you want and give any sort of advice you think I'll need but please don't be too mean about it because at the end of the day I'm new to this whole thing and need a bit of a helping hand lol.
