She is now 4 months old, we've had her for 1 month. She will start meowing between 3-6 AM for attention. She has everything she needs, and we've tried giving her extra playtime before bed and stuff like that but it doesn't make a difference.
At night if we let our bedroom door open, she will play with stuff or chew on cables (or worse: play on the bed) all night, so we've been shutting her out so that we can sleep. Now around 5 AM every morning she will non-stop meow until one of us acknowledges the meowing. I know you aren't supposed to give cats attention for stuff like that, but we live in an apartment and can't just let her meow for hours on end for the sake of our neighbors. We've tried letting her in, she will purr and cuddle us for 30 seconds, then play in the room until we lock her out again. We've tried putting her in her crate but she panics and will just meow louder and scratch... sometimes she won't meow again after we've let her out but sometimes she will. What we've been doing for the most part is spraying her with water every time she meows at the door, but she will give it a rest for a solid minute before starting up again. If anything she's started just meowing earlier and earlier in the morning.
I've started giving up at 5:30 ish and just getting up for the day, she will purr and try to play with me for 5 minutes (which I don't because my partner is still trying to sleep). When she doesn't get played with she goes to sleep which is the worst part, because she doesn't do that in the bedroom and will play for hours in there with nothing unless we lock her out.
The next thing we are going to try is maybe covering everything in our room up with blankets in an attempt to discourage playing and leaving the door open, but in the past she's played on/with the bed itself or with us while we sleep so my hopes aren't really that high.
Thank you for reading....Does anyone have any kind of advice? I'm exhausted.
EDIT: She also seems to get rowdy as soon as we go to bed, even if she was sound asleep a minute ago. As soon as we turn all the lights off she will bounce up for play time in the bedroom, and she's done this since we've gotten her. We've tried conditioning her to be sleepy in the room and bringing her in there with us when she'll nap with us no problem, it's just once all the lights go off.
