Moving 1,200 Miles with Stray Cat Advice

Hey there! I have a stray problem at my house. My neighbors (the same household) buy a kitten and care for it until it grows up then take off their collar and lock them outside. Over the last two years, we've gotten around 10 strays. 2 are regulars that we have named Bully and Loudmouth.

Loudmouth is so unbelievably sweet. She escorts me to the mail box a block away every single day. She patiently waits for me to feed her when i open the garage to leave. She never fights the other cats. She sleeps outside on our porch (we made a little insulated cat shelter for her). I was terrified of cats until she licked and nibbled my hand.

I am moving 1,200 miles within a year from now. She's never been in our house. She seems healthy (plump year round, soft fur, no fleas/ticks). She is a little skittish of strangers but generally affectionate and truly belongs on another subreddit here that may or may not revolve around vocal kitties.

If i leave on my own, without mother and dog, i want to take her with me. Obviously a vet visit and shots would be in order, but... How do you travel halfway across the country with a cat? What about pee? Poop? Food? Do they stay in the carrier the entire 6 hour drive until i get to the hotel?

Would a stray like her even be... Comfortable/happy in a home and adjust well? She always tries to follow me inside but i have to shoo her away as my dog would be too happy to eat a cat for lunch.

Has anyone done this with a similar, mild mannered and well tempered stray? Is it possible?

Also, rescues and the pound are not an option. They won't take any of the cats. They'll only fix them and release them.

If i do move with my dog, my friend has agreed to adopt Loudmouth permanently. She can't now as she has the legal limit of 4(5?) Cats on her property.
