My 8-year-old pug/boston terrier has been having regular "accidents".
One thing to note is that this was NEVER a problem since I started dating my boyfriend a year ago. We figured it must have been a territorial/dominance issue, so once my boyfriend calmly asserted himself, it stopped.
As of late, she has been having accidents after periods of no misbehaviour. For example, she will go weeks without any accidents or urinary problems and will pee on the couch, her own bed, and even our bed!
This is a new behaviour and we have noticed a correlation between giving her a lot of positive attention, snuggles or treats and then she pees where we are hanging out. This is after she has just been outside for a period, also our dog can go up to 6 hours at home without any accidents, she will literally does it right in front of us!
It makes us feel like we can't be too nice to her or she just asserts her dominance. Its a bummer, we want to snuggle her, have her on the couch or our bed but now we worry about her peeing on it.
Caught between discipline and wanting to love our dog.
