I have asked my vet this very question and they said it was fine, but I am hyper sensitive of making the right decisions for my pets and was hoping to get other perspectives to ease my nerves.
I have a 6 year old Chihuahua mix and a year old American Short Hair cat. I feed my dog Canidae Grain-Free Petite Salmon and my cat eats Instict Original Raw Chicken. Both use the wet-food topper Evanger's Grain-Free Quail Cat/Dog Mix to add extra moisture to their diet.
Both animals refuse to sit and eat their food. They will only graze a bite or two at a time. They just like to go slow I guess. I have tried tricks from my vet and online to get them to just sit and eat all at once, but nothing has really worked. Frustrated and worried my cat wasn't eating enough of her own food and just stealing the dogs, I decided to try mixing their foods entirely. They both eat minimal ingredient kibble, the canned food is already geared for cats and dogs at the same time, and neither have any kind of allergies and like the others kibble just fine.
I know cats have special dietary needs. I just hope they can be met when 50% of what they eat is for my dog too. I just dump the bags into the same container and mix thoroughly. I've done it for months and so far I've seen nothing wrong. I get weird looks when I say I mix their food though, so even though my vet gave the okay I feel like a bad pet mama. Has anyone done this with their animals before?
I'll include the first 5 food ingredients in each food below in case this matters as well.
-Canidae Grain-Free Petite Salmon: salmon, salmon meal, peas, lentils, tapioca.
-Instict Original Raw Chicken: chicken, turkey meal, manhaden fish meal, peas, chicken fat.
-Evanger's Grain-Free Quail Cat/Dog: Quail, water, liver, guar gum.
Any commentary, advice, or personal experiences would be awesome. c:
