My roommate keeps his cat locked in their small room in our apartment nearly 24/7

For context my roommate and I live in a 2br apartment and the bedrooms are not all that big. My roommate adopted a sweet female kitten earlier last summer. She was super social and super playful but over the past 3 or so months they’ve been keeping their cat locked in their room all day. Roommate takes online classes and doesn’t work and almost never leaves their room other than to go to the kitchen and then goes back in their room. I’ve noticed the cat’s social skills severely regress over this time. She’s more skittish and shy. When she is able to come out for a moment she likes to hide and doesn’t enjoy being pet as much. When she is allowed the opportunity to come out of the room it’s only for a few hours in the evening. If she gets zoomy during her “free time” she will get tossed into the bedroom and shut in. I want to communicate to my roommate that maybe it’s not such a good idea to keep her locked away all day. My roommate is the anxious type so I don’t want to offend them but is there any way I can appeal to my roommate for the cat’s mental health? Thanks!
