On the 10th of April I walked into the pet store and chose to buy a small Robo Hamsters. I thought they were really cute and there weren’t a lot of options. I choose the chubbiest of the litter because I thought I would be healthy. I named the hamster Snoopy. As soon I got it home i let it be for a day.
When I came back it seemed to be familiar enough with the cage so I decided to start interacting with it. I stuck my pointer finger near Snoopy to see his reaction. I was expecting it to be scared and run away as that was usually the case for the hamsters I saw on YouTube. But it did the exact opposite it lunged toward me full force and bite hard on my finger. I’m pretty sure it didn’t mistake me for food because it was literally trying to lock my finger in place with its hands. That’s basically the behavior it’s been showing me for the past couple of days. When I looked on YouTube for footage i saw that most Robos were scared of human contact and mostly ran away but not mine it ran toward me and that’s what confuses me it never shows any fear of me at all. The only time it lets me touch it is when it’s eating where it lets me get in loads of pets. Another strange thing I saw was that whenever I handed it food it never ran away like with other hamsters. It just ran up and got it and ate it. I was curious when this happened so I put on my glove put some food in my hand and the hamster had no problem with sitting in my hand eating and I could even lift it up. So for a few days every time I interacted with it I wore gloves and just to clarify it bite the gloves as well it didn’t hurt but Snoopy didn’t act any different glove or no glove. One day i cupped it in my hands and just let him bite me and after a minutes of just taking it from Snoopy he just stopped biting me and actually let me touch it. Whenever I put my finger near it it wouldn’t bite it even sat on my hand if it wanted to. After that I put my bare hand with it and it just bit me with no change at all. So now I was in this point where hell act completely calm when I had my gloves on but hate me when I take them off. After that the very next day I start watching it and petting it when it’s eating like usually but something unusual is that it seems like having a glove on doesn’t matter he still bites me but he does do it less though.
At this point I’m just confused every behavior I saw from it was normal except this. Snoopy started out and is still just not afraid of me and lunges toward me with no hesitation and it’s not scared at all it never runs. With the glove on it kinda like me but it’s not perfect. I’m giving it treats whenever it doesn’t bite me to show I’m not a threat and it doesn’t work. It’s it because it’s stressed or bored. I’ll admit that my cage is pretty small it’s only about 18x18 inches with is like 324 sq inches I think which is pretty small compared to the recommend amount. But it never seems bored it never paces or seem bored it always is doing something. So I don’t really know how to approach this so can some experts help me out
