People giving away their pets at big tech companies... makes my heart sick

I work for one of the big tech companies which allows dogs to the workplace. I’ve noticed on multiple occasions that there are folks who get dogs just to “fit in”. But then, there’s a dog distribution list where equal number of people are giving away their pets because they are unable to give it “the care it needs”. We literally just got an email today from some moron saying:

“My dog is a very friendly, happy and amazing pup. We got him as a pup when he was 3 weeks old and 3 years later, there’s not a dull day with him. He has been given the best training over the first year of his time with me. He is very obedient and respectful. Does great off leash on an electronic collar. I am unable to keep him as active as he needs to be, so I’m looking for a loving family that can give him all the attention he needs”

I looked up who this person was, and she seems like in her 30s. It’s really really despicable that people want to give their pets away when it suits them. If they are really part of your family, wouldn’t you try your best to make it work?? Otherwise, don’t keep a pet. Just like you shouldn’t have kids if you can’t afford to, don’t keep pets if you think they are disposable toys.

I’m so mad right now. #rantover.
