Sorry if my english is a little off its not my first language. I just have to get this of my chest cause stuff that people write online and say when I go to petstores just drives me nuts.
So basically my problem with a lot of people is that they get a pet without doing any sort of research into what they need how they should be kept and when you tell them that (for the wellbeing of their pet) they might want to change some stuff they get all defensive.
Hamsters should (unless sometimes dwarf hamsters) be kept alone as they are solitary animals and will most likely fight till they injure or kill eachother. They need at least 450 inches of CONTINUED floorspace but the more the better as in the wild they run huge amounts to get food. Bar chewing is not a normal behavior.
Guinea pigs are pack animals so they need to be kept in pairs or more. They need hay or they cant poop and they need fresh vegetables every day (not just pellets). They need a big area to run in (dont get one of those "guinea pig cages" they arent worth it build one with shelving units.
Rats are pack animals and need to be kept at least in pairs better 3. They need lots of room to climb and run around in. They are highly active pets. They will love to interact with you if you put in the effort tp socialize them. They NEED mental stimulation as they are very smart and easily bored.
Bettas arent a decoration they are living creatures so dont put them in a f***ing vase or a flowerpot. Give them plants to chill on and to rest those fancy fins get hecking heavy. They need at least a 5 gallon Aquarium with heater and filter.
Btw goldfish get f***ing massive and arent to be kept in a 5 gallon Aquarium but rather a 20-50 gallon otherwise they will grow on the inside (organs) but not on the outside and yeah I guess you know what happens then. They can get older then 10-15 years.
Dogs are basically children. Cute sometimes stupid children and need to learn whats right an wrong and just like children you cant just put them in a crate all the time. Teach them that your home is a safe place for them and that they can chill there and give them toys to play with while you are gone. Oh yeah and they are 12-17 years or responsibility so know what you get yourself into before getting one and then shoving it into the next animal shelter cause you cant be bothered to go out with him 2-3 times a day.
Cats are fluffy little destroyers of worlds. No really they will scratch at a lot of stuff sometimes even you but mostly your furniture. They need a properly cleaned toilet otherwise they will not go on it and rather poop in your bed or on your carpet to tell you that you did something wrong. They should be fed a high quality diet (no sugar, no grains) they are carnivore they neeeeeed protein and many brand name cat foods have sugar and stuff your cat doesnt need and thats not even good for your cats health. If you dont want to power out your cat everyday by playing with them for up to 2 hours (depends on your cats age and energy levels) get a second one they will play and do all the stuff cats should be able to do with eachother (grooming, snuggling, punching eachother in the face cause they are d*cks sometimes)
Rabbits are a lot of work and they are by no means a childsplay toy. Dont buy your kid a rabbit just cause easter comes around. They need large areas to hop around (no cages unless they are freeroam rabbits and its their food and hide area but they can get out all the time). They need fresh food and most of them dont like cuddling or being turned on their back (they are prey animals).
Most of above mentioned animals should notbe bathed or at least not often as they need their natural oils (rats) in their fur or can get sick from getting vet (hamsters).
Trips to the vet can be hecking expensive yes but you have no right not to go to the vet if your pet is in danger or suffering. Some vets might do payment arrangements and you should always have a vet fund in case something arises.
Pets are NOT a basic need. Sure its nice having them but if you cant afford to give them a proper life then dont get them.
Thanks for reading
Tldr: Do your research before getting pets, have a vet fund cause your pet shouldnt be forced to suffer and you dont NEED a pet, if you cant afford it dont get it.
