I figure this is the right subreddit to post this.
Hi fellow redditors, two years ago my mom bought my stepdad what is to be a purebred Rottweiler at 6 weeks old.
No training whatsoever because my step dad “trains” his dogs himself by hitting them and pinning them to the ground, whatever.
At about 4-5 months he bit my face out of aggression and almost took my eye out, which was the first time he had acted out. Since that mark in his life he has been constant with bad behavior and my step-dad constantly advocates for the dog. When he bit my face it was “he’s just a puppy” when he jumps up on people and snaps at them it’s “he’s trying to play” etc etc.
It’s getting to the point now where nobody can walk out of their rooms without him jumping, or smacking them with his paws. Or nipping at them. We can’t walk up the stairs when we get home because he sits at the top and will jump at us if we try to get by him. I can’t have friends or my boyfriend over because he snaps at them, and basically anyone else we invite in the house.
My step dad doesn’t see this and sees this dog as a perfect, amazing, never does bad dog. Where my mom, me, my sister and others are being scratched, bruised and lunged at by this dog.
What can I do? What can my mom do? We don’t wanna get rid of the dog but my step dad refuses to let us go take the dog to get trained. Help!?
