I'm considering adopting a second cat but am worried about the risks to my current cat

Fleas, tapeworms, ringworm, etc., would be a huge hassle but could be managed.

I'm more worried about what happens if the new cat tests positive for FeLV or FIV, or perhaps worse - undiagnosed FIP.

There's the risk to my first cat to consider. It would break my heart if by trying to get her a friend I made her ill.

Then there's the future of the second cat to consider. What would I do with it? Dropping it off at a shelter seems heartless after adopting it but I couldn't keep both if doing so might kill my first cat.

Other people who have debated these scenarios, would you please let me know your thoughts? Thanks. ❤
