Last night I get a call from my boyfriend , he was picking up some books at mini library stand. (Its like a big mailbox -you get a book and leave a book ) He there was a kitten that walked up to him that looked really bad. He dosen't exaggerate nor is he the emotional type but he sounded distressed. He asked me what to do bc it had a collar on but the cat looked abused. I told him to come pick me up and we would figure it out and if it looked really bad we could take it to my vet . He was a few blocks away so he picked me up and we drove to the area and that cat was still there. We brought water and a light. It wasn't a kitten but he was small. this cat looks BAD. Like a bag of bones, bloated tummy and he looked nasty dirty. His collar said he lived down the street. He went to door of a very nice house. The lights were on and there was a dog barking but no one answered the door. My bf tried ringing a few times but nobody came. We waited in the car for while , a neighbor came home but nobody from that house. So I said we should bring the cat home and bring him back tomarrow.
Once at home in the light you could tell this cat is starved. You could feel it in the dark but in full light it was really sad. All bones but his tummy was puffy and hard . He has worms or bloated tummy. This cat has clear eyes but is drooling to much. The drools not foamy but definitely he looks like death. (We put cat the in our yoga room away from my cat and dog and on a separate floor we washed our hands several times after each interaction)
His hair is dry and full of dandruff , torn ears and his paws have litter or gravel jammed into them. No smell or obvious wounds. I took off is collar bc it looked to tight and under it was a bald patch. Around most of his neck. We decided to take him to the vet before we bring him back bc I feel very conflicted just giving back this cat in this condition.
My worry is he he is being abused. No shelter would adopt out a cat in that condition.
It takes a while for a collar to rub off fur Cats don't let themselves go like that even strays look better than this poor fucker.
But what if they took him in to help him? I dont want to steal a pet. But hes so damn crusty. idk how hed get like that even if he ran away from home bc my cat goes out for hours in my yard he looks nothing like that. Its Sunday so tommarow the bf is taking him to the vet . Then back to his house if this is caused by tumors or somthing . If its abuse probally have to get the humane society involved ? What's the best legal course of action?
