Could use some insight and thoughts from fellow pet owners. I have an 18-year old cat, who has started to stop pooping in the litter box within the last five months.
She will pee in the litter box without fail, but never poop. To do that, she'll find a random spot around the house when we aren't looking. She has some repeat spots, and sometimes just sitting out in the open to easily find. We recently moved, so I understand the adjustment for her. Outside of this though, she's a very happy cat and loves exploring the new house.
- We have multiple litter boxes, clean them daily and scrub them down fresh weekly
- Tried multiple types of litter, but to no avail. We've also tried adding a lid, using a bigger box, and leaving it wide open for her
- We've tried Nature's Miracle to clean the mess, but it doesn't seem to stop her from pooping there again
- She went to the vet recently and aside from heart disease (which she's medicated for), she's otherwise healthy. Also asked our vet if it may be a side-effect from her medication, and that was ruled out
How do you deal with this behavior, especially in a senior cat? We've tried putting down training pads to see if she'd use those, but at this point it's difficult to leave her alone at home, unattended, as I always come home to a nice surprise.
Any ideas?
