First, both pets have already been seen by the vet, checked out, and are on antibiotics
I have 4 pets: 2 dogs, 2 cats. My 17 year old cat, Zoe, didn't feel well sunday so I took her to the vet monday morning. She has had chronic kidney disease for a year or so now, so I figured something was up with that. They did a full senior blood panel & urinalysis. Blood work was fine except for expected kidney values, which had not worsened significantly. UA showed LOTS of blood, and "a couple of bacteria". Vet said they'd normally see more, but diagnosed it as a UTI, gave her antibiotics, and she has recheck in 2 weeks.
Tuesday night, 1.5 year old border collie, Liberty, pees in her crate. Then pees in the playroom, the living room, the foyer, dribbles in the kitchen & it's brown. Wednesday (today) morning, I call the vet & make an appointment. They do a UA, shows LOTS of blood. Same vet, she didn't mention the amount of bacteria and I stupidly didn't ask. She also gets some antibiotics, recheck in 2 weeks.
I just find it really suspicious that an elderly cat and a young healthy dog have an almost identical problem at basically the same time. The other 2 pets, 12 year old aussie mix and 2 year old long haired cat, do not have any symptoms. All drink from the same water bowl, so I have now thrown that out (even though it was cleaned 2.5 weeks ago, rinsed every time it was refilled, and supposedly coated with antimicrobial stuff). Zoe and Liberty don't eat the same food, food stored in separate locations. The dogs eat different food from each other, the cats eat the same cat food. No new cleaners or foods or anything like that. Zoe never goes outside. The dogs go out (to pee and play), and the other cat roams but comes inside several times a day.
Is it possible the water bowl/something in it could have caused this? Can anyone think of something else I need to check or look for, so that the other 2 don't get sick too?
