Cat carrying advice?

Not gonna lie, cats aren't my biggest cup of tea. I will be taking care of two for a few days and I will need to transport them in my car, a Focus Sedan. I have no clue what I am doing, but I will be royally pissed if these cats mess up my car interior. A few options:

If I fold down my rear seats, would it be humane if I used cargo straps to tie down the hard shell carrier in my trunk? I figured this would by the safest and most secure.

On the floor in front of the rear seats? I'm considering getting some weathertech mats to contain any mishaps.

On the rear seats? The seats are tilted backward somewhat and it wouldn't be secure.

I do have some calming spray, too. Just trying to make this humane as possible. Most stuff online says to use seatbelts, but those solutions look really insecure and look like a classic case of anthropomorphizing pets.
