Me, my boyfriend, and my friend moved in together three months ago. My boyfriend and I brought our 1 year old, male Turkish Angora who is quite large (Wensley) and my roommate brought her 4 year old female Tabby (Sophia). Both are fixed. We set out to introduce them properly. We watched videos, set a plan, and tried introducing them slowly. Feeding on either side of the door, that sort of thing. Our schedules started getting in the way, so I said let's not progress any further until two of us at a time can manage the process. My roommate grew super impatient and decided to let the cats meet on their own terms by letting them both free out of the respective bedrooms and into the living room. Of course my cat, the large, young Wensley, was very curious and wanted to get right up in Sophia's face. Sophia was very aggressive and has been ever since this mistake. No amount of introductory processes has changed this behavior, and my roommate still tries to have the cats in the same room even though the cycle is that Wensley will stare and try to chase Sophia, and Sophia immediately hisses and growls at the sight of Wensley. We try to keep them separate in our own bedrooms and let one cat roam at a time for certain hours in the day, depending on who's home, but my roommate hates keeping her cat "cooped up" in her bedroom, even though my cat gets equal time put away and it's the only way to keep them at peace. I've had to put my foot down because one time she had both cats out without either me or my boyfriend home, which angered me greatly because if anything happened we wouldn't have been there. Tonight was the worst yet. She let them both out and Wensley scared the daylights out of Sophia by stalking up beside her and chased her into a corner because my roommate's bedroom door was closed. I've never been so scared for my cat. It took me forever to chase him down without him or Sophia going after each other because my roommate and boyfriend just froze. My roommate has completely messed everything up with the cats and not only am I incredibly angry that my roommate has not respected the rules we all as roommates agreed on, but has ruined the cats for ever getting along. I don't suppose there's any possible hope left, but if anyone has any suggestions, I'm grateful to hear them. Otherwise, she is NEVER to let the cats interact ever again, and we may be seeking a new roommate once the lease is over.
