Moved from a studio to an apartment with rooms and cats aren't used to it

I recently moved from a studio apartment to a bigger apartment to better accommodate my two cats and now I have my own bedroom. For the first few days, I slept in the living room because my bed hadn't arrived yet. When it finally did, I set it up and put the cats outside and closed the door.

They started meowing and scratching the door, especially the younger one. I let them in and closed the door and they paw at the door to be let out. I guess they're not used to not seeing me all the time? It's been 2 years since I woke up without a paw or cat butt at my face.

What do I do? Do I just leave them outside even when they're meowing and scratching the door?
