My cat seems more aggressive than usual...

We adopted 2 cats about 6 months ago, they are brothers. One of them, orange tabby named Zane has always seemed a bit on the nippy side. He thinks hands are play things (we are trying to stop that habit) and has a tendency to nip at noses or faces when he gets the chance. Sometimes it’s really sweet, when he’s sleepily he will give very soft nips on our noses, but lately the nips are turning into bites. He also has been chasing his brother, Binx, more than usual and I can hear them fighting under our bed, then I can hear Binx let out a cry then I usually stop it at that point.

Normally, Zane give the usual yearning cry before he swipes or bites at us, but lately the cry comes with the attack so we’re not able to let him go or stop whatever we’re doing with him before he makes contact. This morning, I picked him up to get him out of the sink so I could brush my teeth and he tried to back swipe me, without a warning cry, and his claw got caught in my nose and cut me. Then later tonight, I picked him up, placed him on my chest and he just attacked my nose and left about an inch slash on my nose.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what we can do to help calm him down or how we can stop the biting behavior? We try biting back and grabbing the back of his neck, similar to how a mother would her kittens and so far nothing seems to help....
