My dog is acting like he’s hurt but I can tell what it is

First things first, 3.5 year old 138 pound neutered male American Akita. I have made a vet appointment. My vet suggested that I wait until Monday to bring him in and take this time to monitor him since he can walk, eat, and use the bathroom without major issues.

All started 2 days ago. I wasn’t present but my girlfriend was letting my dog get into the back of her car (he goes on car rides daily) and when he jumped in he let out a loud cry of pain. They went to the park and he was walking but wasn’t as hyper as usual. He didn’t seem to want to jump back into the car. He has a very slight but noticable limp for the next 24 hours. When we woke up this morning his limp was virtually gone, but he didn’t look like he was walking normal. It’s very hard to tell if he’s trying to keep his weight off of the leg he was limping with or if it’s a different leg today.

Like I said he is eating and using the bathroom normally, and when he walks he does seem to be in pain. He takes a second or 2 longer to stand up when laying down but he’s a giant dog with long legs so it’s not terribly unusual.

He will break into a brinsk walk but will not run. This is not uncommon because he is not much of a runner for more than 20-30 feet or so and he doesn’t seem to like it when on-leash.

When he was laying down on the floor this morning I tested range of motion and squeezed every toe, ankle, knee, hip etc in all 4 of his legs and they seem normal. I checked the pads of his feet for cuts/sores and they look normal.

He has not let out a yelp or cry of pain since the original incident. It’s hard for me to diagnose this because he is a very stoic and stubborn dog from a notoriously hardheaded breed, and I feel like his instincts are helping him mask his injury well. My mind is telling me Strain/sprained joint or partially torn CCL but I really have no clue and I’m not sure if I’m overreacting.

I can provide any more details if needed and I appreciate any help, thank you.
