Hi, I hope this is allowed on here. I'd like recommendations on what I can do to help with my dog's anxiety, mainly separation anxiety. She's 11, and we rescued her when she was 3. Long story short, when my dad leaves the house now, she would walk around or stand by the door to wait which sounds like normal dog behaviour except she wouldn't sit or lie down at all. So if he's out for 4 hours, she'd be standing on her paws for 4 hours until he returns. I must add that she never used to be like this. My theory is, because of age she now has joint issues and problems with her hip, she fears she may not get up from a lying down position when she's alone. I've tried stroking her to calm her down when she's behaving this way, and sometimes she would voluntarily sit but once I get up, she would get up as well.
The only thing that has worked for her anxiety in the past was Ewegurt. However, they have stopped selling the product in my country for a while now so it's been a struggle. Thundershirt does nothing to help. I've tried giving her diluted camomile tea but she's take a sniff of the liquid and walk away.
If someone could please recommend me remedies that has helped your dog, I'd really appreciate it.
