I adopted two cats last Sunday who are a bonded pair. They don't seem very bonded to each other, and they don't really spend much time near each other at all but seem comfortable together. Both cats are a year old.
The female cat is extremely skittish. She spends most of her time hiding but will occasionally, reluctantly come out for for a treat. She doesn't come out to play, but if I bring the cat toy near her she will bat it occasionally. She will let me pet her but shakes like a leaf.
The male cat has warmed up quickly, but will hide as soon as I open the door of the room he's been staying in, and if I leave it open it takes him a while to calm down again after closing the door.
Is there anything I can do to help these kitties get more comfortable? They just seem so far away from what I've read on the internet.
