Basically what the title says! I am getting my own place soon and my dog is going back to being by himself for 8h! I know I am waiting a couple months before I bring a new family member into the pack so I can get our own routine down. I’m just not sure of what family member I should add!
I have a 7y M Rat Terrier and he does wonderful with dog play groups (just not a fan of high energy dogs or puppies). We have lived with 2 cats for the last 3 months and they are not the kindest cats so he tolerated them and gives them their space!
I ask this question because the new place I am moving to is an HOA duplex! Because it’s HOA, they take care of all the lawn care but that means I can’t have a fence! My plan is to take my boy on multiple walks with supervised time in the back!
Is it smarter to get a second dog (who Rocco May socialize a little better with) in this scenario or get a cat (that I could raise with a dog and keep him company)?
