I've had two parakeets for about 4 months now and they still seem to not like me. One will hop on my hand and sit there unless I move, which causes it to fly away and the other one won't let me touch it at all. They get along well together and will sing if I play music or if I'm talking, but anytime I try to let them out in my room so they can have fun outside of the cage, they still just perch right on the outside and refuse to leave. I was told that parakeets love humans and are social, but these two just don't seem so. When I first got them, I followed the steps of slowly desensitizing them to me and letting them see me as their friend, but they still aren't convinced, I guess. If this keeps up, I'm really thinking about returning them to the pet store to be adopted somewhere else. It sounds bad, but I'd rather them not be caged their whole lives because they refuse to socialize with me. I sincerely don't WANT to give them back, but I really don't know what else to do. Could someone offer some advice?
