So me and my friend are moving into a new house. Due to circumstances this is the only place I can go and bring the dog. My dog( 4 year old female rat/pit terrier mix) has only ever lived with one other older female dog. She does chase the neighborhood cats that jump along the fence and once chased after our neighbors small dog when she was completely alone. She's never done any chasing around me or my mother. She is mainly an inside dog.
My friends cat is completely inside and never been around another animal. I've done a lot of reading about the normal introduction bring a dog to a cats residence and vice versa but this will be a new residence for both the animals. Ive purchased a very large gated kennel for her and my plan is to keep her with me in my room or in that when she is not outside and let the cat have free rein of the house until we do enough of the easing in and face to faces. I know it will take some time. Maybe some time with her in the kennal with the door open that gives the cat a way to safely come see and I'll be by my dog.
Which ever area becomes the cats feeding/potty area will be gated off and such also. Idk if this is the best way to do it but I feel it's the safest. I'd really like them to be able to live together in the house, my dog could be mainly outside but I know she would be really sad about that and her anxiety is already hard to manage.
Any advice or if my idea sounds horrible please let me know. Thanks in advance.
