Cat checkup help

Our cats are 100% indoor and genuinely hate the outside. We have no other pets. One of the kitties is older and has no teeth, he had dental disease when we got him and had to have all his teeth pulled (this was before getting cat 2). Cat 2 went in for a check-up when we got him and he had no issues and got all his shots. Because my first Kittie had teeth issues I'm super worried about it happening to the new kitty. I have had cats my whole life, always indoor, only the one ever had any issues, never took them to a vet yearly, and all have lived long heathy lives so the idea of taking an indoor cat in yearly seems silly to me especially when it costs so much...

The cat was in 16 months ago, no issues. I called today to ask about teeth cleaning... They need the cat to have updated rabies shot which I totally get but that also has to be a separate appointment.

The initial appointment would be $90 for checkup and rabies. Then they will give me a quote for anesthesia +dental that I'll have to schedule then for another day. They estimate the cleaning to be $90-$150

So to get the kitties teeth cleaned I need to take 2 days off work, pay $180-$250, and he'll be on anesthesia so he'll need a full day to recover and can't be left alone. Is it worth it? Am I thinking about this wrong? Is there a way I can clean his teeth myself? I give him greenies dental treats daily and he has lots of teeth cleaning toys to chew on. He only eats cat food, isn't showing any signs of issues, and is 100% indoor literally petrified for the outside so there's zero exposure for him to get rabies or other transferrable diseases. Idk what to do.
