Cat is bored to death and is biting her hotspots any chance she gets.

I’m at a loss on what to do with my 3 year old indoor-only cat. I’ve had her for 2+ years now and nothing has changed in our large household environment. We’ve spent over $2000 on vet visits this year alone and haven’t gotten any closer to figuring out why she is doing this. At this point, 3 veterinarians have given up and money is way too tight for me to see a specialist or any other tests. This happened multiple times throughout the year (no pattern).

My belief is that she bites herself because she’s so bored - but she is not interested in ANY toys. No curious desire for anything. I am really looking for suggestions on how I can help her boredom. She’s been in a cone for most of her life and I feel terrible that I haven’t been able to find a practical solution yet. I try engaging her multiple times throughout the day and establishing a set schedule.

Here is everything I’ve tried so far: - No medical issues, except for dry, flaky, dandruffy fur (taking omega 3 supplement, regular brushing). - All food and snacks have been veterinarian approved for her food allergies - Blood test, allergy test, stool test, flea test, ear mite test, and multiple skin scrapes have been done. - No sign of fleas or environmental allergies - 1 dog in household, dog is not a stressor. - Currently taking anxiety medication (amitriptyline) with no results. Dosage was increased and still no charge.
- No identifiable stressors in household. Relatively quiet and no changes have occurred in the past year (people and objects) - Average weight domestic short hair: 10-11lbs. - Inactive and sedentary lifestyle. Most just lunges around and seems to sleep a normal amount. - Water intake is good, receives wet food as well. - Wears a flea collar - Wears an anxiety collar. Anxiety vest was also tried but did not show any results. - Has multiple tall scratching posts and happily used them - Cat is spayed

Here are toys I have tried left out at various times for over the course of 6 months+: Cat dancer, laser pointer, toys to bat, toys to chew, feather toys, mice, boxes, bottle caps, chasers, food puzzles, automated toys, catnip toys, balls, tunnels, cat tv, real bird feeder, crinkle toys, toys that make sounds, interactive toys (me acting like prey), bread ties, springs. No luck with any of them.

Cat trees - We left one out for a year in various locations, little to no interest in using even when next to a window. 2 other ones were tried with no interest.

Another female cat - No interaction between two cats. Rarely played with each other and just did their own thing. It has been 1.5 years since that cat moved out of this household.

String/rope appear to be the only thing she’s remotely interested in but she makes no effort to go after it. She only looks for a few seconds and stops caring after 5 seconds.

Help me reddit, you’re my only hope now. Is there anything else I can try to help my bored, lazy cat?
