Do older cats sleep more deeply?

I have a 19 year old cat, who is very healthy, with the exception of complete hearing loss. She’s still alert, fairly agile, and skinny. The one problem is that I feel as though she is sleeping much more deeply. When you have a cat this age, every time you walk in the door, you brace yourself. The past week or so this has happened twice. I would come home to find my cat sleeping on my bed, as always, and I would reach over and pet her, but she wouldn’t wake up. I couldn’t tell if she was warm, or breathing. Thirty seconds later. She groggily woke up, and I nearly fainted in relief. So, do Senior cats sleep more deeply than younger cats? are they more used to the lack of danger? Are they less sensitive?
