Hi.
I've always known I was allergic to cats - even though I had a cat when I was very young (5 to 8, can't remember what happened to him right now. We did move overseas, though) and I didn't have problems then.
Long story short, me and my fiancée adopted a cat. She is the best, and we are terminally in love with her. I have lived with cats in the same house before, and managed allergies by limiting contact - but this time that seems hard. This cat will sleep with us in the same bed -which I love- and our place has no doors or separate spaces.
And so, my battle with allergies beings. It started with itching itchiness - sneezing and whatnot. But I hardly got any sleep because my nose became completely blocked even though I am taking loratadine and wearing a face mask.
My question is; Has anyone have success coping with mild cat allergies while being a cat owner? Should I try immunotherapy? Tips, tricks?
I am most definitely not giving up on this cat. I had a nasty peak of allergies last night and it was hard to catch my breath for a minute, but I am not giving up on this cat. It's just that it's very annoying to cope with nasal blockage and so on. Plus, I have a heart codition that greatly restricts what I can take for my symptoms.
Thank you all for reading. I love her, she's been here 3 days and nights and she already likes us a lot. She's got lustrous hair and barely sheds any of it, which is good. I always thought I would end up getting one of them Sphynx cats, but this happened. I love cats too much. I love this one too much. We still haven't come up with a name - suggestions are welcome.
