So the shelter in my city has a new program where people can temporarily foster dogs for comfort and stress purposes. The dogs are completely healthy and are up for adoption, but people can take them out of the shelter anywhere from 2 hours to 2 weeks, with the main purpose of getting them out to reduce stress and depression levels.
I can’t afford to take on a dog long term right now, but I can definitely have a dog or two hang out temporarily in my home and give them lots of loving. But, say I were to keep a dog a week, would bringing them back after cause the dog to get even more depressed? I feel like it’s almost cruel to make a dog believe it’s found a home to just bring him back.
But I have no idea if that’s actually true. Anyone have any input on this?
Like I said, I would love to do it but I feel unsure how this would impact the dog in the longer term.
