My kittens are around 4.5-5 months, and are assumed litter mates and I adopted them as a bonded pair. They seriously love each other, they sleep in a pile a lot, they groom each other, play and wrestle, don't like to be out of each others sight.
I was giving them both a treat (not even their favorite kind) and they're a little stupid and didn't see where they were. They went for the same one and one kitten growled at the other. I pushed him away and he hissed. I have never heard him hiss or growl before and certainly not at his sister, and they often go after the same treats like that. They have their own food bowls, and eat right next to each other. Sometimes his sister will eat from his bowl if he doesn't finish his food, and he has never minded.
They went to the vet this afternoon to get a distemper booster. I had also just put flea medication on his sister, so she probably smelled a little weird to him. Could either of these things be reasons for this random aggression?
Should I worry that this is the beginning of food aggression? Can cats randomly start being food aggressive?
