Hello everyone, I'm 13 and my family owns a dog. He is a male cocker spaniel, and is around 5 years old. For a long time our dog has been quite cold to most of us and never really liked being petted, preferring to be left alone at most times. He also really dislikes kids, meaning he runs away from them and tries to stay away. However, at other times he will be happy for us to pet him or play. But one of the biggest problems is the fact that if you happen to go over to pat him at the wrong time, he will growl. If it gets too annoying for him, he will lash out and try to bite you. He doesn't bite with full force, but it's still enough to break the skin or hurt. My dad was quite strict with him as a puppy and this alongside the fact that he is blind in his right eye due to glaucoma may contribute to the grumpy personality. Don't get me wrong, he is a great dog and will love to be petted at times but in most cases will just prefer not to be, and sometimes it will make him pretty angry if the dreaded petting continues. This sort of makes him look bipolar (I do know that he isn't bipolar or anything, he's a dog). But the question i'm asking is that are there any ways to make him warm up to us a little more? Maybe take him for more walks, play with him more often, change his diet or anything like that. I just want to see if we can make him a bit happier. Any answers will be appreciated.
