My dog’s health and diet change to help far more than I expected

Just wanted to slap this here and share info from putting my dog on a raw food diet. It’s rather long so I apologize though some may enjoy the read!

First off, what triggered the food change was a condition called Inspidius Diabetes or water diabetes. Basically my dog was lacking hormones to make his kidneys filter water properly. Poor Thor was literally peeing water and not able to retain water properly. He was constantly lying down and when he’d get up there would be a decent sized puddle. When I took him to the vet and had bloodwork done he had a clean bill of health, no diabetes or cancer.... so why still is the vet saying he has water diabetes?

After trying Thor on expensive meds and even asking the vet if it could be his food causing the issue which the vet replied not likely I’ve been working with my dog to figure out what was honestly causing him to drink so much water. I fasted my dog for 32 hours to see something, I continue to give him his meds as normal during this. Sure enough, as the clock ticked by his urine started to turn to the consistency of oil. The meds were now making it too concentrated.

Now I’ve always done loads of research on dogfood and I was feeding Thor “Now!” or “Go!” Dogfood for a good while. Excellent dry dog food however with Thor getting old, turns 9 on Christmas day, he started developing more sensitivities to food. I would grind up his dog food and add water too it and the amount of water it would just absorb was astounding. I had been giving my dog food that was literally drying his stomach out and making him guzzle so much water.

So next best thing at this point was a raw food diet, standard wet dog food and dry dog food was going to be far too costly, not to mention Thor’s medication if he still needed it.

Now, Thor is a very dear dog to me. He’s gotten me through very stressful times, kept encouraging me to walk and stay active. He’s helped me greatly through an abusive situation and constantly reminding me that everything is alright and been keeping me on schedule for things during the day whenever hard times ensue or I have difficulty focusing. Always been a true and supportive friend that keeps reminding me to appreciate the small things so, no price can be put on my appreciation for my friend. My friend is getting old and showing it. A 5 day escapade of him lost in a northern and wild part of Canada, he simply got too interested in the smells and took off. My heart shattered during the time he was mossing and physical exhaustion of searching the wilds and getting the local community involved, when he came back he had obvious back pain and assuming he fell off some cliffs in the area has been nursing some slipped discs since. This of course has made him age a bit quicker now and from that point on his fur began to grey on his head and him just slow down.

Now with his current condition I figured.... why not try raw food. It’s got everything he needs, easy for dogs to eat and he deserves the best. All good dogs do! He’s definitely been there for me and even my spouse now too when she has a hard time.

The easiest raw dog food company in Canada is Big Country Raw dog food and cat food. I looked into this, my local pet store gave me some sample ls and I fasted good ol’ Thor for 12 hours and he got his fancy dinner. Next evening same thing. The results in two days alone... just wow....

Thor no longer guzzles water, doesn’t consistently beg or search for extra food as his body is using and absorbing ALL of the nutrients from his raw food. As a bonus his outhouse trips are much less frequent and far smaller, his urine is now a proper amount and where I still need to give him medication to control the leaking, it is far less I have to give him so it helps out financially. His back is improving each day, and his fur... I thought Thor’s fur was soft from his other food.... he is like this amazing cloud of soft lovable fluff and even sheds less!! Yes, a husky shedding less it’s a miracle. Thor’s fur was never really oily either though now, it just feels cleaner. I am astounded at the improvement. My 9 year old pal is getting years back, starting to act like he’s 2 again!

On top of his Beef or Fish dinner pack this company also provides meal replacement bones and chew bones with raw meat on them. I mean this things are bloody fresh. Where it’s not for the faint of heart or stomach for some people, these bones are amazing. It’s cleaning his teeth, his breath doesn’t stink anymore and it’s a good form of enrichment for him! Bored dogs are never a good thing and these things are absolutely great.

I know raw food can seem pricey at first however when I added up the cost of his previous food, the fact I was having to doctor it into wet food and it still wasn’t enough and I would have to get supplements, wet food mixes to add to his dry food, treats, and his medication.... it was far more expensive than just getting him into a raw food diet.

If anyone is having strange medical issue show up in their pet or overall just wants their pal to really enjoy their meals and be in great shape, I can’t recommend raw food enough. Just make sure it also contains vegetables, berries, and fruit as well in the mix!

I can speak for Big Country Raw though other brands I haven’t tried. Whatever is accessible in your area it’s worth looking into! As for the dry food I used, “Go!” Or “Now!” I still recommend it as well. It really was a great food, just Thor can’t absorb all of the nutrients in dry food or handle the dehydration of it anymore. My cat still eats the dry food though I’m probably going to switch him to raw soon too.

I can say the best thing out if this is knowing exactly what’s in Thor’s food and his bone treats now. Dry foods have so much listed on the label as filler, nutrient supplements and whatnot... it’s hard for pets to actually absorb what they’re eating. The raw food smells exactly like what’s listed on the label.

Anyways, just wanted to share this for anyone considering solutions to some health issues or just wanting their bud to have an excellent diet. I know not everyone is able to do this and it doesn’t mean you love your pet any less if you can’t. I want to make that clear! We all show our love to our pets in different forma. Mine is just making sure my pal enjoys his food. I just found personally it’s helping me save on vet bills, other food complications, and has been amazing for my dog so far.

Happy holidays to everyone and give all of your pets some extra pets and cuddles!
