In about a week I will be the proud owner of a little baby kitten Pesto. He will be just about 8 weeks old when I get him. I’ll be taking over the foster process to adopt him. I met him a week ago and he’s the teeniest thing I have ever seen.
I had a beloved cat growing up from 4th grade through college, but he didn’t move with me when I moved out. For the last 4 years I’ve been the step mom to an adult cat that belonged to my ex and was very low maintenance. But Pesto is going to be my baby and my first time being solely responsible for a pet.
I’m going to be going away xmas eve morning and returning xmas day afternoon/evening. I’m not sure I can secure somebody to stop by and check on Pesto who will be about 10 weeks by then.
I’m considering the idea of bringing him on my 2hr bus ride to my family’s just to be close to him. My instinct says that this isn’t the best idea since he’ll still only be like 2 weeks into living with me. But I’m also feeling very protective and nervous about leaving him.
Any advice for potentially traveling with a small kitten especially in the winter? Or should I just not bother stressing him?
Thank you!
Also any advice on socializing him with a 2 year old rat terrier/chihuahua mix with a heart of gold but a TON of energy who’s never met a kitten before. I’ve read the articles on scent swapping and keeping the kitten feeling safe and secure while in the same space as the dog.
