Ugh.
About a month and a half ago, we adopted a one year old male cat. His name is Morty. We love him.
The adoption center told us he was taken care of. We had his paperwork that stated he had all necessary shots and when he had his neuter, etc.
Well, last night I found a small pellet sized thing sticking to his body. I took it off with a Kleenex and it was MOVING. Did my research, turns out he has worms.
We called the adoption center this morning. They said they didn’t have paperwork on him stating he was dewormed (even though he was an outdoor cat previously!!!). They told us we could go to Petsmart and buy an over the counter medication for him that will take care of the worms. Can someone please confirm if this is okay?
The only reason we haven’t called our vet is because he is out of town (we live in a very small town), and won’t be there the rest of the week.
We told our vet about our cat when we first adopted him (we also have a dog that sees him), and our vet stated that as long as we had the correct paperwork, then he didn’t need to see Morty until next year for his yearly vaccinations.
Bah. We are upset. I know it’s our fault as we probably should have taken him in to see our vet anyway in the beginning, but we assumed that the shelter would take care of everything.
Now we are a bit worried. Can my dog get them too? Should I give him medication as well?
They are both indoor animals. We have checked my dogs stool from when he went last night and didn’t find anything.
