my 6 y.o. called spike has been living with me for about a month now, maybe a little longer. he’s very well behaved and started following me everywhere and begging me to let him sleep in my bed (which i do, we regularly clean him and he doesn’t have any parasites.) not too long ago. before that, he saw my parents as his owners and didn’t really pay any attention to me. he loves playing, running around like a little madman at home, and sleeping with his little plushie. he’s easily startled but still such a precious and playful dog, i don’t think he feels bad at his new home but i still wonder if he misses his old home.
he used to live with a woman, i’ll call her A. A and her husband had 10+ dogs at their home that were either their own dogs or cuties looking for a new home. spike and lily (who they think might be his sister) were two of them. we visited her to look at lilly but realized that she’s a complicated dog and we wouldn’t be able to care for her properly, because we don’t have much experience. we still went on a walk with her and took spike too so she wouldn’t be so shy, he was like a confident friend for her that‘d build her up.
and we took him home with us after a lot of paperwork and a few weeks that passed. we just took him away from his shy friend/sister, took him away from his previous owner and took him away from his home. A said that he’s been there for over two years and that she’s glad he finally found a home. i also know that he‘s comfortable with us (otherwise he probably wouldn’t be acting the way he does) but i feel like he might miss all the dogs a lot. we don’t have any dog parks nearby so i can’t take him there to find new friends or something. he never seems sad or anything either, so he probably feels better now that he’s with us but still. is there anything i can do to be sure that he’s happy now?
feel free to remove if this violates any rules!
