Hi all, I have an adult (aged ~12) male cat. We live in an apartment building on the ground floor, and Jinx was a stray cat that used to live in the common yard as a stray for many years when we 'domesticated' him and made him our own.
He is still indoor-outdoor though - there is a window crack through which he comes in and out of the house at will, and gets extremely nervous if his way out is any way blocked, even though he stays inside most of the time.
We had no issue for the past two years, but recently another particularly brazen stray has figured out the way into our house through the window and now he sneaks in every night to eat Jinx's food. I wouldn't have mind the free loader as much, but naturally, Jinx notices and gets all riled up and territorial - we wake up sometimes multiple times a night to break-up a near-fight and shoo the intruder away.
How can we keep the stranger away without blocking Jinx's way in and out of he house?
Thank you all!
TL;DR - I want my own cat to be able to come in and out of my apartment, but keep a strange stray from doing the same?...
