So my little boy (about 5 years old) already has some stomach/intestinal problems and i've since changed his diet accordingly and he's not had a problem until this recently cropped up. He'll go pee and poop in his boxes, and i've never seen him go outside of them or find anything outside of them due to this but whenever he needs to poop he just will not go when he needs to. He waits so long in between bowel movements that it'll hurt him and he'll have vocalizations from what i believe might be cramping but other wise acts completely normal. When he does finally go he's completely fine until it starts again the next night. Even extensive googling leaves me with no answer, because he's not constipated, he just holds it.
I had/still have him on the science hills diet food for sensitive stomachs with a vets recommendation due to his initial problems and it had been smooth sailing until we hit a bump with him not urinating (which luckily turned out to be a non-issue that resolved itself), so at the time i transitioned him to the same brands formula just in a wet food, and upon transitioning him back to the dry food these problems started. I can only assume that switching him back to the wet will alleviate this issue but I've not been able to get the food since the nearest location that carries it is an hour away and it's just too expensive to order online at the moment though I do intend to keep him on an all wet diet once im able to.
He's the only cat in the house and has two litter boxes set up that are both used by him. Any suggestions as to what might it be? I can't be certain its a medical issue (as it feels more like a psychological issue in his case) so while I know the vet is the best option, I just want to save it as a last resort if even going to all wet food doesn't help him.
