My husband and I got a kitten from my sister a little over 2 weeks ago when he was 9 weeks old. We have 2 other cats who have a great relationship with each other, sharing food and toys.
Rick (the kitten), has bonded with our male cat and they play together well. The female hasn't warmed up to him yet, but she's beginning to.
The problem with Rick is that he's VERY food aggressive. When we give the cats wet food, Rick will shove his way in front of the other cats bowls and growl if they try to eat. If we give them treats, Rick will growl and swat at anything that moves near him. He's never gone without food before and his mom was no longer letting him nurse when we got him. He's stressing our other cats out BIG TIME and I've never encountered a behavior like this so I'm unsure of what I need to do to here.
Tonight, I was playing with Rick with his favorite toy (little mouse on a string) and he started to growl at me when I would tug on the toy. That was the first time he's done that so I'm afraid his aggression is getting worse. I stopped playing with him when he growled a second time.
Any tips would be appreciated, I just want all of the cats to be able to eat and play in peace.
