I rescued this kitten from outside of an apartment community and he’s about 5 months now (had him for maybe 3) He’s so destructive! He tracks litter (unrelated to destructiveness) everywhere, so sweeping multiple times a day is an absolute must. He has shredded my retro leather couches to absolute hell. The “_deterrent spray_” doesn’t work worth a damn. He has tons of toys and a cat tree and a post. I do light spritzes of natnip on them to encourage scratching to no avail. He’s torn a hole in my shower curtain. He’s a bad little boy and I love his bad self. But my god.
I work from 7am to 5pm so I don’t know if it’s because I’m gone for long hours. Getting another cat for his company is not an option. I live in a small apartment and already have him unbeknownst to the staff. I also have an elderly rabbit, so he terrorizes her as well (plays too rough and stalking). So another cat isn’t possible. When I am home I wear his ass out with constant play and love. We can’t sleep together at night because he won’t sleep and will attack my face and disrupt my sleep. Actually, he attacks me altogether with rough play, drawing blood. I use loud, stern “NO”s. I do what I call “putting him in jail” which is basically time out in the bathroom for scratching/biting. Is it because he’s feral? Will he mellow out?
Am I not ready for a cat? I need it straight, doc.
