Two Spayed Kittens recovering together

Hi everyone,

We just adopted two wonderful kittens we fostered, 8 and 10 weeks old. I am trying to restrict their activity and have them play less after they've been spayed but it's extremely difficult. They know our apartment really well. They want to jump on the furniture and tumble with each other. I put them into two separate playpens (mesh ones that they can look through) because they didn't like being separated in different rooms and cried a lot. Now they are in their playpens and I put them facing each other so they can at least see each other and be comforted. The younger one is ok but the older one is crying constantly (she cried even when she was alone). What do I do? Ignore the crying and keep them separated in their respective pans? Combine them together in one big pan and let them play without jumping on the furniture? I'm worried about that because sometimes they play really rough with each other.

The hard part is that my husband and I are currently home all the time for the holidays. We thought it would be easier since they will see us around and will be happy that someone is near. But they cry as soon as they see us. Our apartment is not too big so we can only put one of them away into a separate room.

The most important question, how long will I have to keep them separated? The shelter said 2 weeks of restricted activity (!!!) and then they say ok, 7 days minimum. Would love to hear your advice.

Thank you!
