Hi r/pets, and specifically cat owners. My male cat has been diagnosed with FLUTD (Feline Urinary Disorder). We have 3 litter boxes and will be taking the vets recommendations to for changes around the house, etc.
He’s home, feeling better and I am just so happy he’s ok.
What I’m worried about is that pet insurance will not cover this as a preexisting condition, and this just cost me almost $2k to get him treated. I am certainly ok with spending what I need to to get him healthy, and I could never choose the alternate to spending that money, but it is definitely taking a toll on my finances.
Plus, the vet said there’s no way we could know - it could flare up in two weeks or never again. Again, I’m doing what I can to improve his environment and he’s going on a special diet etc.
What I’m asking is - is there a magical pet savings account or a pet HSA or insurance that actually would help with this? Or do I just need to sock away several thousand dollars and hope this is his first and only flare up?
TIA!
