First time posting so I hope this is in the right place and if not I’m sorry but I need some advice.
I’ve been looking into getting a cat for a while now. I had planned on going to a shelter and letting a cat pick me as they say. Can’t really do that now unfortunately. However, I’ve been looking at a local shelters website and browsing through the photos of adoptable pets and one caught my eye instantly. I messaged the shelter who put me in touch with his foster mom. She told me she had bonded with him and was planning to adopt him but hadn’t yet because she’s a student and with the uncertainty of the COVID19 virus wasn’t sure it was a smart move for her. She agreed to a video chat to meet with me and talk more about the cat and would consider letting him go. I have a full time job and a house that I own with plenty of space so she knows it’s a stable environment for him.
But then I started thinking...is it selfish of me to take this cat away from her since they’ve bonded and she seems to really care for him? Should I just tell her if she really wants to keep him then I wouldn’t push her to give him up? Am I wasting my time because she’s actually ALREADY decided she’s keeping him? There are plenty of other cats that need homes I just had my heart kind of set on this one...but I also don’t want to be the jerk taking away a cat from a loving home just because I want to love him too.
This is why I’ve always been nervous to try and adopt a cat that was in a foster home. Any advice is greatly appreciated because I’m hella conflicted right now. Thanks!
