I have a female domestic shorthair cat that is 4 years old and 14 lbs. Before she gained weight, she was normally 10lbs. I have had her on inexpensive dry food all her life (Iams and Purina) because it was all I could afford. She has been on timed meals for a month, 210 calories a day (down from around 260 a day free-fed I believe), and she hasn't lost any weight, only maintaining. I feel like this is a low amount of calories for her size? I also play with her for about 30 minutes a day for exercise.
I know it is because of the dry food, and the best course of action here is to probably switch to a wet food diet. I can't afford to take her to the vet for a meal plan or prescription diet. I have been trying to do research, but I can't figure out exactly what to do.
What is a healthy wet food brand for weight loss? How do I figure out how many calories to feed her, as I am scared she isn't getting enough? And is it better to feed a mix of wet and dry food? Thank you!!
